How to plan lighting for demanding industrial environments
Plan industrial LED lighting from the work performed in each area, the physical conditions of the facility and the required control strategy. A durable solution combines suitable luminaires, accurate light distribution and a layout that supports long operating hours.

Industrial LED lighting for demanding environments starts with the work taking place beneath it. In a production area, warehouse hall or sports hall, the lighting plan must support movement, inspection, handling and other daily tasks without sending unnecessary light outside the target area. We design LED-based luminaires and tailored lighting solutions for demanding, long-term use in industrial sites and halls across Finland.
Plan industrial LED lighting around each work area
Start by dividing the facility into areas with distinct tasks. A loading zone, storage aisles, machinery, workstations and circulation routes rarely need the same light distribution. Mounting height, structural elements, shelves and moving equipment all affect where light should fall. We use the intended use of each area as the basis for selecting the luminaire type, location and optical solution, so that the lighting serves the space instead of treating the whole hall as one uniform surface.
A practical brief gives the project a sound start. Share the floor plan, ceiling heights, work areas, existing lighting layout and any special requirements connected with the production process. If operators inspect small components or use machine vision, those tasks need attention from the outset. Our industrial lighting work focuses on challenging production environments and machine vision solutions, and we can adapt products when standard models do not meet the application’s needs.
A durable industrial lighting plan begins with the work performed in each part of the facility.
Review the lighting requirements of your facility
Send us the layout and the main uses of each area. We will discuss suitable luminaires, optics and control options for your industrial project.
Choose industrial LED lighting with the right optics
The luminaire alone does not determine the result. Optics direct light from the LED module and define the light distribution in the room. In a high hall, the wrong beam pattern can leave work surfaces unevenly lit or send light where nobody needs it. We select from a range of lenses for most of our luminaires and provide light distribution files that can be used in lighting design software. Explore optics and light distribution.
Glare also belongs in the planning phase. Light aimed directly into an operator’s field of view can make detailed work harder, even where the room appears bright. The position of machinery, reflective surfaces and normal viewing directions guide the choice of luminaire placement and optics. This approach also helps limit wasted light. Lumous lighting solutions are designed for long-term use where appropriate lighting, reliability, maintainability and energy efficiency matter together.
Make industrial LED lighting work across long operating hours
Long operating hours make control and lifecycle considerations part of the lighting plan. Grouping luminaires by area allows the light to follow the use of the facility, such as active work zones and spaces that stand empty between shifts. We offer fixed-output and adjustable luminaire versions, as well as intelligent lighting solutions and conventional control options. See our intelligent lighting solutions.
Plan the whole system before selecting individual products. Motiva highlights light-source efficiency, luminaire performance, work requirements, grouping and control as key elements of industrial lighting planning. Read Motiva’s industrial property guidance. We assemble our luminaires in Finland and can create customised luminaires from existing models, including production batches of fewer than one hundred units when the application calls for it.
