Controlled light distribution helps place light on the route, floor, deck, or other working surface instead of sending it where it offers little benefit. The luminaire’s optics determine how light spreads from the LED module into its surroundings. We use light-distribution information as part of design work, so the chosen luminaire suits the geometry of the structure and the intended lighting task. A long, narrow canopy calls for a different distribution than a wide bridge deck or a sheltered entrance with columns. The mounting location also changes the result.
